Village Server and GIS

The Village Hall Server has been upgraded. New high speed network cables are being run to all work stations to maximize use of this system. Weekly system backups are being performed and stored off site for security purposes. A grant has been received from State Archives to start work on the the GIS database. The first item to be added will be the the Village sanitary system. GIS (Geographic Information Systems) allows the development of a geographically referenced map and associated database (geodatabase) which can store, display and retrieve geographic features and their associated information. Some examples include; all the tax parcels in the village, aerial photos, utility locations and information, flood zones, building locations and their use, zoning districts, overlay districts, and anything else that can be displayed geographically. Many of the Village maps in the "Publications" section of this site were made using base GIS data. The geodatabase map and the associated attributes for any particular feature will be accessible from each workstation in the Village Hall. The grant is to have video tape of the sanitary sewer system digitized. The digitized images may be hyperlinked to the maps sanitary system overlay. By clicking on a section of pipe on the map, the images will be displayed along with details on pipe diameter, pipe material, distance from manholes, and other information to aid in maintenance and repair of the system. To learn more about GIS systems visit ESRI's Site.

New Park

Work is under way to create a new park on the Village property located at the corner of East Broadway and Vernon Ave. This passive park will provide a quiet location to sit and relax, have lunch or go for a quick stroll. Asphalt, concrete, and debris have been removed, a water meter vault installed for a sprinkler system and electric, and the final layout is in progress.

New Crosswalks

The Village is in the final stage of obtaining necessary county approvals to change the crosswalks at Old Northern Blvd and East Broadway, and Old Northern Blvd. and Main St., to stamped concrete. The new crosswalks will have the appearance of brick as seen in Sea Cliff and other areas. Stamped concrete is a requirement of Nassau County for duribility and safety. The new crosswalks will add to the appearance of the downtown area while promoting pedestrian safety.
